Dr. Paul E. Brauchle is a professor in the Department of Technology at Illinois State. He received a Ph.D. in Practical Arts and Vocational-Technical Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and has more than 25 years of experience dealing with training and development issues. A national member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), he is a past president of the Central Illinois ASTD Chapter and has served as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI). He has presented at national and regional ASTD and ISPI conferences.

Author and co-author of numerous articles on team building, worker empowerment, and evaluation of training effectiveness, he conducts research on how empowered workers can help the company’s bottom line and consults with industry on ways to improve human performance. He coordinates the Technology Department's master’s program sequence in training and development. He also co-founded the Bureau of Training and Development, which provides industrial training and development services to business and industry throughout the central Illinois area. Dr. Brauchle is past Vice President for Military and Industrial Training for the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators (NAITTE). He has previously served as Managing Editor of the NAITTE Monograph Series and as Chair of the NAITTE Research Committee, and presently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Industrial Teacher Education and Human Resource Development Quarterly. In addition, Dr. Brauchle is a member of NAITTE, AVA, CTTE, and EPT. He is a founding member and Co-Trustee of Gamma Theta Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau and has received the Paul T. Hiser Exemplary Publications Award from the Board of Directors of Epsilon Pi Tau.

Roger Day is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics. He began his Illinois State tenure in 1993 after completing his PhD in Mathematics Education at the University of Minnesota. He also holds a master's degree in mathematics education from the University of Wisconsin and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Saint Olaf College in Minnesota.

Dr. Day has been a teacher throughout his professional career. He began teaching as an undergraduate at Saint Olaf College in 1978 and taught high schoool mathematics in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, California, and the country of Norway. He also was an instructor at Saint Olaf College during the 1980s and taught mathematics education courses during his doctoral program at the University of Minnesota. At the University of Wisconsin, he was a research assistant in the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research.

At Illinois State, Dr. Day has taught a variety of mathematics courses, including content and methods courses for undergraduate majors, student teacher supervision, courses in the department's middle school teacher development program, and a general education mathematis course. He has earned two teaching awards at Illinois State and has twice been nominated for an outstanding university teacher award.

Dr. Day's doctoral research focused on the evolution of the beliefs of teacher candidates as they advanced through a mathematics teacher education program at the University of Minnesota. He continued that research at Illinois State with a small grant that supported the study of mathematics student teachers. He also has teamed with others in the secondary mathematics teacher development program, including his wife and colleague, Dr. Tami Martin, to study the development and implementation of performance-based assessment within the program.

Dr. Day lives in Bloomington with his wife and two children, 10-year-old Avery and 6-year-old Hallie. He and his family enjoy playing golf together and traveling. This fall he played baseball for the first time in more than 20
years, through the local PONY baseball senior mens' baseball organization.

Mike earned his undergraduate degree in Technology Education with an emphasis in transportation, energy, and power from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota. The first three years after receiving his undergraduate degree, were spent teaching at the secondary grade level. Courses that Mike taught included: Automotive Upkeep; Production Technology; Energy Utilization Technology; Wood Design and Fabrication; and, Transportation Technology. He is currently pursuing his next goal, a graduate degree in Technology Education from Illinois State. Before assuming the role of curriculum specialist for the Integrated Mathematics, Science, and Technology (IMaST) project, Mike taught teacher education classes and supervised student teachers in the Department of Technology at Illinois State.

Cindy Langrall is an Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department at Illinois State. She earned her Ph. D. in the area of mathematics education from the University of Maryland in 1993. Prior to that she taught at an elementary school for 11 years, completed a Master of Education degree at the University of Maryland, and taught mathematics content and methods courses at Salisbury State University in Maryland.

Her research interests are in the development of children's thinking in probability and statistics, and middle school students' algebraic reasoning. Recent publications in these areas include articles in Mathematical Thinking and Learning, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, and Educational Studies in Mathematics. She is also involved in research pertaining to teaching and teacher change and has published articles in the Journal of Teacher Education, and Journal for Research and Development in Education. She has presented papers and conducted numerous workshops and presentations at national and international conferences. Cindy enjoys teaching undergraduate and graduate classes at Illinois State, and working in the field with preservice and inservice teachers.

Dr. Lind has recently returned from the National Science Foundation where she was a Program Officer in the Education and Human Resource Directorate. She was a Program Director for the Teacher Enhancement and Instructional Materials Development programs, with a secondary appointment in the Informal Science Education program.

As a Professor of Science Education and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Louisville, Dr. Lind has been the Principal Investigator on funded grants from NSF, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) NSTA, Monsanto, and the Kentucky Council for Higher Education. She served as Regional Director for Science on the NSF-funded Kentucky State Systemic Initiative (PRISM) and Director of the NSF-funded Center for Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Learning (CERTL), a collaborative effort with the Jefferson County Public Schools.

Dr. Lind has served as the Director of Teacher Education and as a Board of Directors member for the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is a member of the NCATE New Professional Teacher Standards drafting committee. Additionally, she served on the PRAXIS Elementary Board for the Educational Testing Service (ETS). She is a past-president of the Council for Elementary Science International (CESI) and Early Childhood Editor for Science and Children.

Dr. Lind has developed publications and presentations with the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS), the Head Start Bureau, the New York Academy of Science, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the 3rd Science Center World Congress in Australia, the Association of Educators of Teachers of Science, the American Educational Research Association, and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. She consults with Reading Rainbow, World Book, Lancit Media Production, Lawrence Hall of Science, the New York Conservation Society and others.

Dr. Lind's career in education has included teaching elementary and middle school children of differing socioeconomic backgrounds in a variety of settings. Research interests include: a). Identification of teaching and learning strategies which encourage inquiry in children, b) professional development design and strategies for teaching and learning science, c) impact of professional development on teacher leadership and ability to implement science in their school communities, and d) collaboration between scientists, science educators, and schools to implement excellence in integrated science, mathematics, technology, and literacy learning.

After receiving his doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado in 1970, Franzie joined the industrial technology faculty at Illinois State. He is currently a Distinguished Professor of Industrial Technology and the Acting Director of the Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology at Illinois State. Franzie thoroughly enjoys the challenge of developing curricula that help teachers use constructivist pedagogy. During the past eight years Franzie has directed the Integrated Mathematics, Science and Technology (IMaST) curriculum project with most of its funding coming from the National Science Foundation. When completed (2002), IMaST will feature a full mathematics, science, and technology curriculum for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Dr. Merrill is an Associate Professor in the Department of Technology’s Technology Education Program and also serves as the Technology Education Program Coordinator.  Merrill is active at the state level regarding technology education by serving as the Executive Director of the Illinois Technology Student Association, Editor of the Illinois Journal of Technology Education, Program Coordinator for the Illinois Technology Education Conference, and as the state leader for the Illinois University Council for Career and Technical Education.  At the international level, Merrill is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Industrial Teacher Education, serves as a member on the undergraduate committee for technology education through the Council on Technology Teacher Education, and is a past Board of Directors member for the International Technology Education Association.

Dr. Merrill completed his undergraduate education at Illinois State University in Industrial Technology Education, his Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University in Curriculum and Instruction with Supervision, and his Doctoral Degree from The Ohio State University in Integrated Technology, Mathematics, and Science Education.  Before moving to the university rank, Merrill taught at Gardner-South Wilmington and DeKalb high schools.

Dr. Merrill is currently working with the National Center for Engineering and Technology Education, which is a $10 million National Science Foundation Center for Learning and Teaching as the professional development coordinator.  Merrill has also completed work for another National Science Foundation funded project called Project ProBase as a curriculum and examination developer.

Dr. Marilyn Morey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Illinois State. She began her undergraduate degree at Illinois State and completed her B. S. in Education degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Morey earned her M. S. in Education degree in 1985 and her Ed. D. in 1996, both at Illinois State. Dr. Morey has taught science education courses for 18 years at Towson University in Maryland and Illinois State.

Since 1999, Dr. Morey has been teaching science methods courses at the Illinois State/District 21 Professional Development School in Wheeling, Illinois. She also serves as University Liaison for the Professional Development School Program.

Her research interests are in student and teacher self-efficacy, especially as it pertains to science teaching and learning in the elementary school setting. She is also involved in research pertaining to the development and implementation of integrated curriculum. Dr. Morey served as Co-PI in the development of IMaST (completed in 2003), a fully integrated mathematics, science, and technology curriculum for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades funded by the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Morey has presented papers and conducted workshops at local, state, and national conferences. She continues to enjoy the challenge of teaching undergraduate and graduate science education classes at Illinois State and working with the College of Education Professional Development Schools Program.

Dr. Morris began his college teaching career at Illinois State in 1966 after completing his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Illinois. During his full-time teaching years at Illinois State, he directed Summer Institutes for Teachers of Lower Division College Mathematics and academic year Pre-service Institutes for Teachers of Mathematics. He joined the Illinois State administration as Secretary of the University in 1973, later becoming Vice President for Administrative Services. In 1990 he accepted the system-level position of Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs with the Board of Regents, retiring from this position in 1995.

Dr. Morris continues his association with Illinois State and with educational interests as a Senior Associate with CeMaST and with the Center for the Study of Educational Policy. He enjoys his roles as Coordinator of SIMaST (Students Integrating Mathematics, Science, and Technology) and as Coordinator of ISU-LSAMP, a program designed to increase the number of minority graduates who pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology. He continues to pursue a long-time interest in the collection and analysis of data used for assessing educational equity at all levels.

Dr. Richard E. Satchwell earned his terminal degree in Vocational and Technical Education from the University of Illinois. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Illinois State and a master's from the University of Northern Iowa, Dr. Satchwell spent 18 years as a technology education teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. From 1995-1996, he served as the Associate Director for the Technology for All Americans Project, aimed at developing National Standards for Technology Education. Currently, Dr. Satchwell is the Project Coordinator for the Integrated Mathematics, Science, and Technology (IMaST) project funded by the National Science Foundation. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education, Dr. Satchwell serves on the National Visiting Committee for the South Carolina Advanced Technology Education Center for Excellence. He is also an adjunct instructor at Illinois State where he teaches courses for the Department of Industrial Technology and Computer User Services.

During the past five years, Dr. Satchwell has authored seven articles related to technology education, co-authored four textbooks that integrate mathematics, science, and technology, and made numerous presentations at state, regional, and national conferences. In 1999 Dr. Satchwell was recognized as a “Leader to Watch” by the International Technology Education Association. Dr. Satchwell received the William E. Nagel Leadership Award in 1998 from the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research at the University of Illinois was recognized with the 1997 Outstanding Dissertation Manuscript from the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators.
